Winter Sport Term Two and Three
It is time to start thinking about sport for next term. Read the information below about how we organise sport at Y5&6. Please think about coaching a team because having volunteer coaches is integral to the success of the programme and the opportunities it provides for the children.
Winter Sport 2016-Y5&6
Syndicate
This year we are again planning a two-pronged approach;
competitive sport at Hagley Park and Non competitive at Hansens Park. Please note, Sport will be on THURSDAY
AFTERNOONS.
- Competitive teams will be travelling to Hagley Park to play in the Thursday winter competition run by Sport Canterbury. Depending on the number of volunteer coaches and children’s interest, we could possibly send; one Rugby team, one or two football teams, one or two hockey teams and two netball teams.
- Another group will go to Hansens Park for a “have a go type” sport programme, with an in school tournament at the end of each term. In this programme students will rotate around a number of different sports focusing on developing their sports skills.
- We need your support to enable the programme to proceed. Please consider being a coach. We need your help as each team must have a coach/referee.
Before your child commits to a sport for the winter we
thought we would give you a break down of the costs. If you are prepared to
meet these costs students are allowed to try out for teams. Please complete the
section on the next page and return to school by Thursday 2 APRIL
Please read and consider the note about coaches.
We will confirm your
child’s team selection on Friday week 2 of term 2.

Coaches:
Looking
at the interest shown by the children, we require 4 coaches, one each for Rugby,
Football, Netball and Hockey. To enable
the school to enter teams in the Hagley competition we need to have coaches for
each team. The coach needs to supervise the students and also be able to umpire
the games. Having practices is an advantage
for the team but often the school fields are too wet to get on them during the
winter months. In the past we have walked to Hansens Park for lunchtime practices.
If
you would be willing to be a team coach please fill out the slip below and return
to school by Thursday 2 April. Your help
is crucial to the success of our sport programme and greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Mrs Dalley
