Whaka Inaka

During Term 1 Groups of children have been visiting the Heathcote River to be involved in the Whaka Inaka Saving the Whitebait Project.  The Students have had a hands on opportunity to be young scientists by making observations of pest activity, changing bait cards,  checking the bale condition and adding data to a survey.  It's been great fun learning about the lifecycle of the White bait species and being part of the project to ensure the survival of the tiny fish for future generations.
Thank You to all the parents that have come along to assist with transporting the children and supervise.
We are near the end of the project and have visits on the last Friday of the holidays and week 1 and 2.

Home Learning for Term 2

Parents and Students

Welcome back to Term 2. What fabulous weather we have had for the school holidays. We hope you had time to enjoy each others' company!
As part of setting up for Term 2 we would like you to have a look at the Home Learning page on our blog (See the tabs at the top.). Note that there is a writing section.
Just as reading daily improves your reading so does writing daily improve your writing.
Check out the ideas you can use underneath the home learning or for some of you, may like to attempt a longer chapter book that can be written over the whole term. It would be really good for your keyboard skills to do this on a computer.

Happy writing!

Ravenous Reader Awards

Congratulations to all those who have achieved their goal in Term 1 for the Ravenous Reader Awards. There has been some great reading and we love the way students are reading widely and finding books they have enjoyed but would never have read if they hadn't been trying to achieve a Ravenous Reader award.  Keep up the good work in Term 2 and for those who have already achieved Gold... There is double bronze, double silver and double gold to go for. I bet you didn't know that.

Anzac Poppies

Isabella and her sister have been making Anzac poppies for teachers in our school. They are incredibly well made out of felt and the girls have done blanket stitch around the outside. This is Isabella showing her poppy.

Term 1 Inquiry/Global Community

Today the students in Navigators 11,12,13 presented their inquiry to the other students in the syndicate. We were impressed at how well they could talk about their work and how much ome of them had learnt. Well done Navigators 11,12 and 13. We were very proud of you.

St Martins School Duathlon

Yesterday, under glorious blue skies, our school duathlon was run at Hansens Park. The competitiveness was there with the individual events and many of our children did really well. All children took part in the teams events and it was good to see all children were included in teams. Very proud of all children. You were brilliant.
